Ah, the Masters. In our house it’s the official start of spring. If you’ve been here for awhile you already know golf is a pretty big deal in our household as 2 of our 5 children play the sport.
The Masters Tournament was established in 1934 at Augusta National. Augusta National is known for its meticulously manicured fairways, azalea-lined paths, and challenging course.
The Masters carries a lot of tradition, including the Green Jacket ceremony, $1.50 egg salad sandwiches and Azalea themed cocktails.
Winning the Masters is a career-defining achievement for any professional golfer, and your party can be too!
1. Set the Scene: Augusta-Inspired Decor
Transform your space into a mini Augusta National by incorporating classic Masters themes and colors. Here’s how:
- Green and Yellow Everything: Decorate with the iconic Masters colors—green and yellow—through table settings, banners, and balloons. I purchased this set on Amazon.
- Mini Golf Touches: Set up a small putting green or create a DIY chipping contest in the backyard.
- Leaderboards & Scorecards: Display a tournament leaderboard with real-time updates on the Masters standings.
- Golf-Inspired Centerpieces and Table Scape: Use golf balls, tees, score cards and fresh flowers in green and yellow arrangements. I purchased these mini grass turfs off Amazon too. Bonus! They double for Easter decor.
2. Masters-Inspired Menu: A Taste of Augusta
No Masters party is complete without a menu inspired by the tournament’s famous concessions:
- Pimento Cheese & Egg Salad Sandwiches: Serve them on white bread, just like at Augusta National.
- Georgia Peach Cobbler: A sweet nod to the tournament’s home state.
- Arnold Palmers & Signature Cocktails: Offer a mix of iced tea and lemonade, or spike it with bourbon for an adult twist.
- Southern Favorites: Consider adding barbecue sliders, fried chicken, or shrimp and grits to the menu.
3. Dress the Part: Green Jacket Vibes
Encourage guests to dress in their golf best!
- Wear Green: Have guests wear Masters-inspired outfits or award a prize for the best-dressed in golf attire.
- DIY Green Jacket: Get a thrifted green blazer and make it your party’s official trophy for winners of games and contests. I made one for my son a couple years ago and grabbed this patch from Amazon.
4. Fun & Games: Keep the Energy High
Make sure there’s plenty of entertainment beyond just watching the tournament:
- Friendly Putting Contest: Set up a mini putting challenge with prizes.
- Masters Trivia: Test guests’ knowledge of the tournament’s history.
- Closest to the Pin Challenge: If you have outdoor space, set up a chip shot competition.
5. Watch Party Setup: The Ultimate Viewing Experience
Since the Masters is the main event, ensure your guests have the best seat in the house:
- Multiple Screens: Set up multiple viewing areas, indoors and out, so no one misses the action.
- Comfy Seating: Arrange chairs and couches in a way that maximizes the view of the TV.
- Sound & Streaming: Ensure a strong WiFi connection and quality speakers so guests can hear every legendary shot.
6. Masters Party Favors: Send Guests Home in Style
End the party on a high note with fun party favors:
- Golf Balls & Tees: Personalized or Masters-themed golf balls and tees make a great takeaway.
- Mini Green Jackets: Small, fun keepsakes for winners of party games.
- Masters-Inspired Goodie Bags: Include snacks like Georgia peanuts, mini scorecards, and souvenir cups.
