I love a New Year. There is something so freeing about stepping into a new year with a clean slate. I am also all about setting goals for the new year.
Each year we travel to Arkansas to visit Jeff’s family the day after Christmas. (Except this year, we don’t have a vehicle. Long story… read about our stolen minivan here.) It’s during that LONG 13 + hour car ride that Jeff and I have a lot of time to talk, reflect on the year, and set new goals for the upcoming one. I don’t like to view them as Resolutions, they are goals I set for us, our family and myself in the year to come!
I always buy a new Bullet Journal for Christmas so I have a clean book to jot my thoughts, hopes and dreams in. I set lofty and realistic goals as an individual, as a mother, as a wife, and as a family.
In 2018, I wanted to grow my Instagram account. I really wanted to reach 10k followers so Instagram would unlock some features like the “swipe up” button in stories. Silly, but that was my goal…. and I reached it, I think I reached it by March of that year. Today, I hover around 20k followers, even though engagement is down across the board… that’s another story for another day!
In 2019, I wanted to to have one more baby. Thank you Jesus for our healthy baby boy, Jude. I also wanted to grow my social media marketing business, White Barn Media. I jumped from 2 clients to 7 clients within 2 months. It was wonderful, and I was making really great money… but I eventually had to cut back because I didn’t have the bandwidth for some of the more demanding clients. I also didn’t want to hire outside help. Today, I have 4 clients and I am extremely comfortable with that number.
In 2020, I want to grow my personal brand. Shanisty.com — the place for the modern mom. I want to launch my online academy, which I have been promising for a solid year now. I want to take you on a visual journey through videos and worksheets. I want to show you how I went from an award winning journalist to stay at home mom with zero income. I went from making really good money, to no money at all. We moved into a one bedroom apartment with two children.
I then rebranded myself and started my own business. Four years later, I am making double what I ever made on-air and I work from home and only work about 10-12 hours a week!! I promise it’s not as difficult as it sounds, but you have to have the discipline. I’ll go through all of that…
Here’s the thing, I know you’ve heard this pitch before from your direct sales friends. I recently shared with you all on Instagram about a phenomenal podcast about Multilevel Marketing and Direct Sales. SPOILER ALERT! I don’t do any of that. The tricks and tips I’m going to share with you have NOTHING to do with selling a product and EVERYTHING to do with selling yourself!
I’m really excited about it, and I hope you are too. My goal is to have it ready for you by late spring / early summer of 2020. Goals and deadlines, my friends.
In the meantime, you can help me out by telling me what you’d love to learn from me!
- Do you want to learn how to start a successful social media marketing business?
- Do you want to learn how to work from home with little kids and no outside help?
- Do you want to learn how to become a successful blogger?
- Do you want to learn how to be featured on large outlets like The Today Show and Ellen?
- Do you want to learn how to become a social media influencer?
What would you LOVE to learn from me?! I will add it in to my online academy.
Stay tuned, my friends… 2020 is going to be an exciting ride!
