Is the Very Merry Mickey’s Christmas Party Worth The Cost?

The Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom is a popular holiday event, but whether it’s worth the cost depends on your priorities. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide:

Pros:

  1. Exclusive Entertainment:
    • Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade: A Christmas-themed parade with festive characters, Santa Claus, and snowfall on Main Street. AND the TikTok sensation, Tally the Elf.
    • Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks: A stunning fireworks display unique to this event. (10pm— and soooo worth it!)
    • Special Stage Shows: “Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration” features Disney characters performing holiday songs.
  2. Shorter Ride Lines:
    • Limited ticket sales mean fewer crowds, so popular rides have much shorter wait times. The longest we waited was 20 minutes!
  3. Holiday Atmosphere:
    • Magic Kingdom transforms into a winter wonderland with special decorations, snow on Main Street, and festive music throughout the park. Christmas music takes the place of Disney tunes and everyone is saying “Merry Christmas!”
  4. Complimentary Treats:
    • Free hot cocoa, cookies, and holiday snacks are provided at various stations. Columbus based Cheryl’s cookies too!
  5. Character Meet-and-Greets:
    • Meet rare Disney characters in unique holiday outfits not typically seen during the day. We only got in line to see Peter and Wendy. My kids don’t love character meet and greets.
  6. Special Merch and Food:
    • Exclusive merchandise and themed food items are available.

Cons:

  1. Cost:
    • Tickets typically range from $159 to $199 per person, depending on the date, making it expensive for families or large groups.
  2. Limited Time:
    • The party runs from 7 PM to midnight (though you can enter as early as 4 PM with a party ticket). It’s a short time for the price if you plan to take breaks. The shorter lines don’t really begin until 6pm.
  3. Crowds:
    • Despite being a “limited” ticket event, popular areas (like parade routes) can still get crowded. Our parade seats weren’t the best, but we made it work. I’d recommend the 11pm parade if you can make it.
  4. Not Ideal for Early Sleepers:
    • Since the best events happen later at night, it may be hard for young children to fully enjoy the party. Asa and Jude both fell asleep, thank goodness for the stroller!

Who It’s Worth It For:

  • Disney Fans who want a unique and magical holiday experience.
  • Visitors who love Christmas events and want to see rare Disney offerings.
  • Families who want entertainment and atmosphere over cost.
  • Those who will maximize the experience by arriving early and staying until close.

Who Might Skip It:

  • Visitors on a budget who can enjoy Magic Kingdom’s daytime decorations without the extra cost.
  • Families with very young kids who won’t stay up late enough to enjoy the party.
  • Guests who don’t care for exclusive parades or holiday-specific entertainment.

If the idea of a special, festive Disney experience with fewer crowds and unique entertainment excites you, it can definitely be worth the cost. If you’re more focused on saving money or exploring the parks during the day, you might skip it and enjoy Magic Kingdom’s holiday decor during regular hours.
