In our house, our teams are never in the Super Bowl, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use this day as an excuse to party. The Super Bowl is more of an event filled with delicious food and entertainment.
Here’s how to make your Super Bowl a giant win:
Game Plan for a Winning Party
Set the Scene
- Decor: Use tablecloths, balloons, and streamers. Fake grass runners, football-themed plates, napkins, and cups add a fun touch.
- Seating: Make sure there’s plenty of comfortable seating with a good view of the TV. Floor cushions or bean bags can help.
- Tech Check: Make sure your TV and sound system are working perfectly before kickoff.
Activities Beyond the Game
- Super Bowl Squares: Set up a simple betting pool for those interested, even if they’re not football fans
- Commercial Bingo: Create bingo cards with popular commercial tropes (talking animals, celebrities, emotional moments, etc.)
- Kids’ Zone: Have games or crafts ready to keep kids entertained
MVP Recipes for Super Bowl Sunday
Appetizers
- Chicken Wings:
- Or toss chicken wings in a mixture of hot sauce and melted butter, then bake or fry until crispy. Serve with celery sticks and ranch or blue cheese dressing.
- Buffalo Chicken Dip:
- Serve with tortilla chips and keep the Tabasco nearby for those who want to turn up the heat
- Million Dollar Dip:
- Serve with baguette slices or Ritz crackers. This dip is addicting!
- Veggie Pizza: One of my most popular appetizers. This one is a fan favorite with kids and adults alike.
Main Courses
- Sliders Bar:
- Offer mini burger patties, buns, and a variety of toppings like cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and condiments. Let guests build their own sliders.
- Sweet Corn Chili:
- A hearty bowl of chili is always a hit. Serve with avocado, tortilla strips and bacon bits
- Pizza Bar:
- Pre make dough or buy pizza dough and then have people make their own mini pizzas.
Desserts
- Football Brownies:
- Bake a batch of brownies and use icing to draw football laces on top.
- Cookies with Team Colors:
- Decorate sugar cookies with icing in the colors of the competing teams.
- Ice Cream Sundae Bar:
- Set up a station with ice cream and toppings like chocolate sauce, sprinkles, nuts, and whipped cream.
Drinks to Keep the Crowd Refreshed
- Signature Cocktails: Create a drink inspired by the teams playing, like a “Kansas City Cooler” or “Buffalo Batch”
- Beer Options: Stock a variety of craft beers, light beers, and non-alcoholic options.
- Mocktails for Kids: Serve drinks like sparkling lemonade or “Shirley Temples” for younger guests.
- Hydration Station: Have plenty of water available, especially if salty snacks are on the menu.
Post-Game Cleanup Tips
- Trash and Recycling Stations: Set up clearly marked bins for trash and recyclables to make cleanup easier.
- Disposable Serveware: Use recyclable plates and utensils to cut down on dish washing.
- Prep Ahead: Wash dishes and clean counters as you go during lulls in the game.
Hosting a Super Bowl party doesn’t have to be stressful. With good food, a fun atmosphere, and a little planning, you can make your party is as memorable as the game itself.
