5 Simple Ways to Make Summer Easier for Moms

Let’s be honest: July is that weird midpoint in summer where the sunscreen is crusted onto the car seats, the kids are constantly “bored,” and you’re one cannonball away from losing your last shred of sanity.

But don’t worry—we’re in this together. If you’re hanging on by a popsicle stick and a prayer, here are some real mom-tested hacks to survive the final stretch of summer without losing your ever-loving mind.

1. Embrace the Lazy Days (No, Really)

Stop fighting the slow pace of summer. Let the kids stay in their pajamas until noon. Let breakfast be a muffin and a banana on a paper towel. This is not the season for perfection—it’s the season for barely surviving and pretending it’s fun.

2. Create a “Mom Needs 20 Minutes” Box

It’s like a sensory bin but for your sanity. Fill it with independent play stuff: kinetic sand, coloring books, puzzle toys, or even a bag of random Dollar Tree junk. When you need to scroll your phone in peace or drink hot coffee like a real adult, break out the box.

3. Switch Up the Routine with Themed Days

Think “Water Wednesday” with a hose and a bucket. Or “Movie Monday” with popcorn and zero shame about screen time. Even just labeling a day makes it feel exciting (and tricks your kids into thinking you’re doing something special).

4. Dinner = Snacks on a Board

Charcuterie, but make it mom-life. Cheese cubes, crackers, baby carrots, whatever is in your fridge. The kids will think it’s fancy. You’ll think it’s done. Everybody wins.

5. Remember: You Don’t Have to Entertain Them All Day

You’re not a cruise director. Kids need boredom. That’s when creativity (and weird cardboard inventions) are born. Give them space. Then hide in the laundry room with chocolate.

Bonus Tip: Plan One Back-to-School Thing (Just One)

Whether it’s ordering backpacks or printing a checklist, doing one small prep task in July will make you feel like a superhero. Future You will be eternally grateful.
